Pune, 26 December 2025: Pune is set to see a major boost in public transport as PMPML plans to induct nearly 2,500 new buses into its fleet by April–May 2026. In preparation, the transport body has begun a comprehensive review of existing bus routes and service frequency to improve overall passenger convenience.
Currently operating on 394 routes, PMPML is considering adding at least 100 new routes after the review. This expansion will strengthen connectivity not only within Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad but also across the wider PMRDA region, making public transport more accessible to suburban commuters.
Along with new routes, PMPML is focusing on increasing bus frequency on high-demand corridors. The aim is to reduce the average waiting time for passengers from the current 20 minutes to around 8–10 minutes. Officials believe this will significantly improve daily commuting experience and encourage more citizens to shift to public transport.
Once the new buses are inducted, PMPML expects its total fleet to reach around 4,000 buses. Daily ridership is projected to touch nearly 18 lakh passengers, with estimated daily revenue of about ₹4 crore. Proposals for new routes and service extensions are also being evaluated alongside this expansion.
PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Pankaj Deore said the arrival of new buses will accelerate route restructuring and service improvements. He added that after the elections, the process will move faster, with the clear focus on making PMPML’s passenger services wider, more efficient, and more reliable.
