Pune, 6th June 2026: Police Commissionerate have extended prohibitory orders across the jurisdiction till June 22 to maintain law and order in the city. The restrictions were earlier in force from May 26 to June 8.
The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Prashant Amritkar under Section 37 (1), (2), and (3) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, with the approval of the Joint Commissioner of Police, Pune City.
Under the order, public meetings, rallies, processions, and assemblies involving five or more persons cannot be held without prior permission from the Pune Police Commissioner. The restrictions have been imposed to prevent any disruption of public order.
Police said the decision was taken in view of the possibility of demonstrations, morchas, dharnas, bandh calls, hunger strikes, and other agitations by political parties and social organizations on various public issues.
Authorities also cited anti-encroachment drives and ongoing religious and cultural events as factors that could potentially create law-and-order challenges.
The notification further prohibits speeches, gestures, publications, or circulation of any material that could threaten public safety, public morality, state security, or incite unlawful activities.
In a significant addition, Pune Police have also barred the creation and circulation of social media reels, videos, or other content that glorifies criminals, spreads fear among the public, promotes criminal activities, or issues threats.
Officials warned that anyone found violating the prohibitory orders will face legal action under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
