Pune, 6th October 2025: Pune, known as the cultural hub and educational centre of Maharashtra, has witnessed another alarming incident highlighting public safety concerns. Late on Sunday night, a police officer was attacked while returning home from duty.
Amol Katkar, who works with the Crime Branch Unit-3, was heading home when two individuals on a motorcycle struck him on the head with a machete around 1 AM on Law College Road. Katkar sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to Sahyadri Hospital for treatment.
Preliminary reports suggest the attack may have been triggered by an argument over cutting a motorcycle. Police have registered the case and are investigating the matter.
Incidents of violence against police personnel are not new in Pune. In recent months, officers have faced attacks due to minor disputes or road-related issues, including cases where traffic police were assaulted or even set on fire by angry individuals.
This attack underscores ongoing safety challenges in Pune, even for those entrusted with maintaining law and order.
