Pune, 7th June 2025: A shocking case of police misconduct has surfaced in Pune, where a youth was allegedly extorted for Rs 28,000 by a police officer near Bopdev Ghat. The incident has drawn serious attention, prompting the suspension of the accused officer and raising concerns about the image of Pune Police.

The accused has been identified as Vikram Laxman Vadtile, a police constable attached to the Kondhwa Police Station. A case of extortion has been registered against him after it was revealed that he threatened a young man with legal action upon finding a hookah pot in his bag.

The complainant, a resident of Chennai, had visited Bopdev Ghat with a friend. During a police check, a hookah pot was discovered in his bag. Officer Vadtile allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 in exchange for not taking legal action and later accepted Rs 28,000 through Google Pay, transferred to his friend Kedar Jadhav.

Following the incident, the youth lodged a complaint at the Kondhwa Police Station. Based on his statement, a formal case was registered against Vadtile. In response, Pune Police suspended the officer pending further investigation
