Pune, 22nd July 2026: Pune continued to receive widespread rainfall over the last 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recording 37.5 mm of rain at Shivajinagar. The city's cumulative rainfall for July has now reached 452.6 mm, while the seasonal total stands at 516.6 mm.
The latest figures mark the first time since 2014 that July rainfall in Pune has crossed the 400 mm mark. Even with El Niño influencing the monsoon this year, Pune's rainfall remains well above normal, reflecting an exceptionally wet July.
Apart from Shivajinagar, several areas also witnessed good rainfall during the last 24 hours.
Pashan: 49.8 mm
NDA: 49 mm
Chinchwad: 48.5 mm
Dapodi: 36 mm
Koregaon Park: 25.5 mm
According to the IMD forecast, light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells is likely to continue in Pune over the next two days, keeping weather conditions favourable for further rainfall.
Continuous rainfall in the Khadakwasla dam catchment has significantly increased water storage. According to the Irrigation Department, Khadakwasla Dam was 73% full at 7 am on Tuesday.
With heavy rainfall continuing in the catchment and inflows steadily increasing, officials expect the reservoir to reach 80% capacity or more within the next few hours.
The Irrigation Department has stated that water may be released from the Khadakwasla dam spillway in the coming hours, depending on rainfall and the volume of inflows into the reservoir.
Authorities have appealed to residents to avoid entering the Mutha riverbed. People have also been asked to immediately remove livestock, equipment or any other belongings from the riverbed as a precautionary measure before water is released.
Officials said further decisions on the release of water will depend on the rainfall situation and reservoir inflows, and citizens should follow official advisories issued by the administration.
