Pune, 22nd July 2026: Pune experienced a relentless monsoon showers as rain that began on Tuesday night continued through Wednesday morning, leaving several parts of the city waterlogged.

With more intense rain forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Pune district and the ghat areas, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy spells over the next 24 hours.

After witnessing light showers for past four days, rainfall intensified on Tuesday evening and continued uninterrupted through the night into Wednesday morning. Several areas of Pune received heavy rain, leading to flooding on roads, reduced visibility and slower movement of traffic during the morning rush hour.

Heavy showers were reported from Kothrud, Deccan, Shivajinagar, Sinhagad Road, Baner, Aundh, Balewadi, Swargate, Dhankawadi, Katraj, Hadapsar, Kondhwa, Bavdhan, Pashan, Bibwewadi, Lohegaon, Vishrantwadi, Sus Road, Khadakwasla, Undri, Kharadi and nearby localities, with rainfall intensity varying across the city.

The IMD has issued a Red Alert for Pune district and the adjoining ghat areas for Wednesday, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy showers. Pune city remains under a Yellow Alert, with heavy rain expected at isolated places.

Similar conditions have been forecast for the ghat regions of Nashik, Satara and Kolhapur, while Konkan and Goa are under an Orange Alert for very heavy rainfall.

Although the rain has brought down temperatures and provided relief from humid conditions, it has also disrupted daily life due to flooding, traffic congestion and power outages in some localities.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, stay away from waterlogged areas and follow weather advisories as the wet spell is expected to continue over the next two days.
