Pune, 7th August 2026: The Pune district administration has initiated the process of identifying 15 acres of land for the construction of a new super multi-speciality hospital proposed by Sassoon General Hospital. A detailed land survey has been ordered, and the Land Records and Revenue Department has been directed to submit its report within the next 20 days.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi on Wednesday. Officials from the Revenue Department, Land Records Department, Sassoon General Hospital, and Yerawada Mental Hospital attended the meeting to discuss the proposal.
The proposed project includes a modern 1,000-bed super multi-speciality hospital, along with a dedicated cancer hospital to strengthen advanced healthcare services in Pune. The Maharashtra Medical Education Department had earlier approved the proposal and requested the Revenue Department to identify suitable government land for the project.
The administration is considering allocating land from the 138-acre Yerawada Mental Hospital campus. While a part of the campus is occupied by hospital buildings, hostels and other facilities, officials said a significant portion remains vacant and could be used for the new project.
Before any land is transferred, the authorities will verify the total land available, identify any encroachments, and assess whether the required 15 acres can be allotted without affecting existing facilities.
As the land belongs to the Health Department, the transfer cannot proceed without its No Objection Certificate (NOC). The survey findings and departmental approval will determine whether the proposed land can be officially allotted for the hospital.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi said that Sassoon General Hospital has sought 15 acres for the proposed super multi-speciality hospital, and the district administration has begun the process of identifying a suitable site for the project.
