PMPML to revamp Pune’s bus stops with 1,700 smart, commuter-friendly shelters modelled on Delhi’s system.
New stops will include digital displays, CCTV, public messaging zones, and improved designs for safety and comfort.
A PMPML team will study Delhi’s infrastructure as part of this large-scale modernization project.
Pune, 28 July 2025: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced a major upgrade of its public transport infrastructure, with plans to build 1,700 modern, smart bus stops across the city. Inspired by Delhi’s model, the new bus stops aim to improve the daily commute experience with features like digital information displays, weather protection, and enhanced safety measures.
These stops will go beyond merely serving as waiting areas, they will be equipped with real-time bus tracking systems, CCTV surveillance, public service announcement zones, and designs that prioritize women’s safety. The transformation is a part of PMPML’s broader mission to make Pune’s transport network more organized and commuter-friendly.
To ensure a smooth and efficient rollout, the bus stops will be developed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, encouraging private investment and faster execution. A PMPML delegation will also visit Delhi shortly to study its bus stop infrastructure firsthand and adapt the best features for Pune.
Currently, many of Pune’s bus stops are in a deteriorated state, lacking basic amenities. Addressing this, PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Pankaj Deore said, "Pune's bus stops in some areas are in poor condition. So instead of constructing traditional stops, we will build modern ones. The aim is to model them after Delhi’s system, and work on this has already begun."
This initiative marks a significant shift toward smart, sustainable, and commuter-focused urban transport in Pune.
