Pune, 12th October 2026: Around 300 female students of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) reportedly protested late Sunday night and early Monday morning over an alleged security breach at the girls’ hostel. The students raised concerns after boys allegedly entered the hostel premises after 10.30 pm and questioned why girls were outside during curfew hours.
According to the available information, the incident led students to question the hostel security guards, warden and director over the enforcement of security rules. The situation escalated, prompting a large group of female students to approach Chaturshrungi police station around 3.30 am on Monday.
Police have reportedly received a complaint naming Pramod Rathod, Omkar Thore and Vijay Kamble, students of SPPU’s Education Department. They are accused of misbehaving with a female student near the girls’ hostel. The allegations are under investigation, and none of the three has been found guilty.
After returning from the police station, the students found the hostel gate closed and demanded that it be opened. The rector reportedly refused, prompting the students to raise slogans against the university administration. Some students also climbed the gate during the protest.
The students’ agitation has brought hostel security, access restrictions and the administration’s response under scrutiny.
This is a developing story, further details are awaited.
