Pune, 24th July 2026: A massive banyan tree was uprooted and crashed onto a residential building inside the Police Lines area at Swargate on Thursday afternoon following heavy rain and strong winds. Around 10 to 15 parked two-wheelers were damaged in the incident. No injuries were reported.

After receiving information about the incident, teams from the Pune Municipal Corporation's Fire Brigade and Tree Authority Department rushed to the spot and began clearing the fallen tree and restoring normalcy.

372 Tree Falls Across Pune in 23 Days

Continuous monsoon showers have led to a sharp rise in tree-fall incidents across Pune. According to data from the Fire Brigade, the city recorded 372 tree-fall cases between July 1 and July 23.

The highest number of incidents was reported on July 6, when 79 trees fell across the city following intense rainfall. After a brief reduction in such incidents, Thursday's spell of rain accompanied by strong winds resulted in 27 more tree falls across Pune by 6 pm.

With rain continuing across the city, the Fire Brigade remains on alert to respond to emergencies related to fallen trees and branches.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has advised residents not to stand under old or weak trees during heavy rain or strong winds and to avoid parking vehicles beneath them to minimise the risk of accidents and property damage.
