Pune, 8th August 2026: After the Nagar Road and Solapur Road corridors, traffic congestion has now become a major concern on the Satara Road, one of Pune’s key entry routes.
Ongoing Metro construction between Swargate and Katraj has narrowed the road and slowed traffic, with long queues forming at several major junctions, particularly during evening peak hours.
The worst-affected stretches include Swargate, Utsav Chowk near City Pride, the junction opposite D-Mart and Katraj Chowk. Vehicles often remain stuck at signals for long periods as traffic builds up during the evening rush.
The ongoing Metro work is currently in its preliminary stages and is expected to continue for several months. With road space already restricted, the increased volume of vehicles is putting additional pressure on the corridor.
To avoid the congestion, several motorists are entering the BRT lane. This has resulted in overcrowding in the lane and has also contributed to accidents, creating an additional safety concern.
With construction expected to continue, commuters and traffic management officials face the challenge of keeping the available road space moving efficiently. Allowing better utilisation of the existing road space during construction could help reduce pressure on the main carriageway.
The Swargate, Sahakarnagar, Market Yard and Bharati Vidyapeeth traffic divisions need to coordinate closely to manage traffic on the corridor, particularly during peak hours.
Traffic personnel and wardens may need to be deployed in greater numbers at the busiest junctions. Proper signal synchronisation and adjustments to signal timings during peak periods could also help improve traffic flow.
Unless immediate traffic management measures are implemented, commuters travelling on the Swargate–Katraj route could face increasing delays and safety risks as Metro construction progresses.
