Pune, 7th July 2026: To ensure smooth movement of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi processions, Pune Traffic Police have imposed a ban on heavy vehicles from 12 am on July 8 until midnight on July 12.

The restrictions apply to heavy vehicles, dumpers, concrete mixers and other slow-moving vehicles. However, the following vehicles have been exempted:

  • Fire brigade vehicles

  • Police vehicles

  • Ambulances

  • Petrol and diesel tankers

  • Vehicles engaged in wedding functions

  • Other essential service vehicles

The order has been issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakare under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Junctions Where Heavy Vehicles Cannot Enter

Heavy vehicles will not be allowed beyond these major locations:

  • Bopodi Chowk

  • Rajiv Gandhi Bridge (Aundh)

  • Bremen Chowk

  • Bopkhel Phata

  • Kharadi Bypass Chowk

  • Kharadi Jakat Naka

  • Kesnand Phata

  • Lonikand

  • Kesnand village

  • Ubale Phata

  • Rasta Chowk (Wagholi)

  • Sus Road

  • Chandni Chowk

  • Warje Junction

  • Bund Garden Bridge

  • Navale Bridge

  • Bhukar Chowk

  • Katraj Chowk

  • Khadi Machine Chowk

  • Manterwadi Phata

  • Devdasi Chowk

  • Theur Phata (Loni Kalbhor)

  • Dive Ghat

  • Ravi Darshan (Hadapsar)

Alternate Routes for Interstate Traffic

Vehicles passing through Pune have been advised to avoid city limits and use these diversions:

  • Solapur/Ahilyanagar/Nashik to Mumbai: Chaufula – Kedgaon – Pargaon – Nahre Phata – Nagar Road – Alephata.

  • Mumbai to Ahilyanagar/Solapur: Alephata – Haveli – Kedgaon – Chaufula – Solapur Road.

  • Kolhapur/Sangli/Satara to Ahilyanagar: Pandharpur Phata – Shirwal – Nira – Morgaon – Supe – Kedgaon – Chaufula – Haveli – Shirur.

Special Diversions on July 12

As Sant Tukaram Maharaj's Palkhi departs from Loni Kalbhor towards Pandharpur on July 12, additional traffic restrictions will be enforced from 11 pm on July 11 until the procession crosses Roti Ghat.

Motorists should follow these alternate routes:

  • Theur Phata to Solapur: Theur – Kesnand – Wagholi/Lonikand – Nagar Road – Shikrapur – Haveli – Daund.

  • Pune to Solapur: Magarpatta – Kharadi Bypass – Nagar Road – Shikrapur – Haveli – Kedgaon Chaufula.

  • Khadi Machine Chowk towards Manterwadi/Bopdev Ghat: Travel via Katraj.

Major Roads to Remain Closed

Pune Traffic Police have also announced complete closures on key roads during the procession.

  • July 9: Old Mumbai-Pune Highway and Alandi Road.

  • July 11: Pune-Solapur Highway and Pune-Ahilyanagar Road along the Palkhi route.

Earlier restrictions were also imposed on roads leading to Alandi, including routes from Lonikand, Talawade, Markal, Vishrantwadi and Wakdewadi.

Police Appeal to Commuters

Traffic Police have urged commuters and transport operators to plan their journeys in advance and use the designated diversion routes to avoid delays.

Petrol and diesel tankers operating on days other than complete road closures must obtain prior permission from the Pune Traffic Branch before entering the city. Citizens seeking traffic-related assistance can contact the Traffic Control Room on 26685000 or 26684000.
