Pune, 18th September 2026: Pune traffic police have announced week long traffic diversions in the central parts of the city during Ganeshotsav. Several important roads will be closed or traffic will be diverted from today till September 25 to control congestion caused by large crowds visiting Ganesh decorations.
Traffic Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakre said the traffic arrangements will be changed according to the movement of pedestrians and vehicles. Additional restrictions will be imposed every evening from 5 pm until the crowds disperse.
The following roads will remain closed during the specified period:
Laxmi Road: Hamjekhan Chowk to Sevasadan Chowk
Alternate route: Vehicles can turn right from Doolya Maruti Chowk and use Daruwala Bridge. Another option is to turn left from Hamjekhan Chowk and use Maharana Pratap Road and Shankarsheth Road.
Shivaji Road: Gadgil Putla to Rameshwar Chowk
Alternate route: Vehicles travelling from Shivajinagar towards Swargate can use S.G. Barve Chowk, J.M. Road, Alka Chowk, Tilak Road or Shastri Road. They can also use the Shimla Chowk–Kamgar Putla Chowk–Shahir Amar Sheikh Chowk–Bolhai Chowk–Nehru Road route.
Bajirao Road: Appa Balwant Chowk to Moti Chowk
Alternate route: Vehicles can continue towards their destination through the available road network.
From 5 pm until the crowds disperse, more roads will be closed or traffic will be diverted depending on the situation:
Laxmi Road: Sevasadan Chowk to Tilak Chowk
Alternate route: Vehicles from Bajirao Road can use Puram Chowk and Tilak Road. Vehicles coming from Shanipar Chowk will be diverted as required.
Shivaji Road: Rameshwar Chowk to Jedhe Chowk
Alternate route 1: S.G. Barve Chowk, J.M. Road, Alka Chowk, Tilak Road or Shastri Road. Vehicles can also use Nehru Road towards Swargate.
Alternate route 2: Kumbharves Chowk, Pavale Chowk, Satatoti Chowk, Yojana Hotel, Devjibaba Chowk, Hamjekhan Chowk, Maharana Pratap Road and Shankarsheth Road.
Bajirao Road: Puram Chowk to Appa Balwant Chowk
Alternate route: Puram Chowk, Tilak Road, Tilak Chowk and Kelkar Road towards Appa Balwant Chowk. The one-way restriction between Telephone Bhavan and Puram Chowk will be temporarily relaxed and two-way traffic may be allowed.
Sinhgad Garage, Ghorpade Peth to Hirabaug Chowk
Alternate route: Vehicles can use Mansaram Naik Road, Dr Kotnis Hospital, Shivaji Road, Shinde Ali, Bhikardas Chowk and Khajina Vihir Chowk towards Tilak Road.
Dinkarrao Javalkar Path to Paigude Chowk/Hirabaug Chowk
Alternate route: Vehicles can use Bajirao Road, Telephone Bhavan, Puram Chowk and Tilak Road.
Late Anant Balkrishna Naik Path: Movement towards Tilak Road will be restricted. No alternate route has been provided because the road is narrow.
Sanas Road: Gotiram Bhaiya Chowk to Govind Halwai Chowk
Alternate route: Gotiram Bhaiya Chowk, Gadikhana, Subhedar Talim, Kasture Chowk and Govind Halwai Chowk.
Panghanti Chowk to Ganj Peth Police Chowki
Alternate route: Panghanti Chowk, Jain Mandir Chowk, Phulwala Chowk and Kasture Chowk towards Ganj Peth Police Chowki.
Ganjpeth Chowk to Veer Lahuji Vastad Talim: Traffic will be restricted. No alternate route has been provided due to the narrow road.
Gaokasab Masjid to Central Street Chowki
Alternate route 1: Gaokasab Masjid, Babajan Chowk, Sarbatwala Chowk and Central Street Chowki.
Alternate route 2: Gaokasab Masjid, Central Street, Indira Gandhi Chowk and Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk.
Kohinoor Chowk to Babajan Chowk
Alternate route: Kohinoor Chowk, Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk, Sarbatwala Chowk and Babajan Chowk.
Jedhe Prasad Road/Subhan Shah Road: Parshwanath Chowk to Shastri Chowk and Subhan Shah Dargah to Sonya Maruti Chowk
Alternate route: Vehicles can use Parshwanath Chowk, Subhedar Talim Chowk and Shivaji Road, or take the Phulwala Chowk–Kasture Chowk route.
No-parking restrictions will apply on both sides of the following roads:
Shivaji Road: Jijamata Chowk to Mandai Chowk
Shivaji Road: Mandai to Shanipar Chowk
Bajirao Road: Shanipar to Futka Buruj
Bajirao Road: Appa Balwant Chowk to Moti Chowk
Tilak Road: S.P. College main entrance to Tilak Chowk
Shastri Road: Senadatta Police Chowki to Tilak Chowk
After 5 pm during September 18 to 25, one-way traffic rules may be temporarily relaxed on the following roads whenever required:
Kumthekar Road
Sadashiv Peth
Fadke Haud Road
Sinhgad Garage to Municipal Corporation Workshop Chowk (Naik Road)
Kohinoor Hotel to Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk (M.G. Road)
Traffic police said road closures and diversions will depend on the movement of pedestrians. Roads may be diverted or completely closed if the crowd increases.
Police have appealed to citizens to avoid restricted roads, follow instructions given by traffic personnel and use alternate routes during Ganeshotsav.
