Pune, 31 July 2025: With growing concerns over future water availability, villages under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) may face shortages if timely action is not taken. To tackle this issue, a review meeting of municipal chief executive officers (CEOs) and concerned authorities was held recently at the PMRDA office.
The meeting focused on evaluating the current status of drinking water supply and sewerage infrastructure across areas under PMRDA. Discussions also included coordination with departments such as Water Resources and MIDC, from whom many villages currently source their water.
PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase informed that the situation calls for proactive planning to avoid water-related issues in the near future. The assessment also included details on how much water is being received currently and the sources of supply for each area.
This meeting followed a previous discussion chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also the head of PMRDA. During that meeting, the CM had instructed officials to reassess the overall water distribution situation in Pune district.
Following those instructions, the latest review brought together municipal council and panchayat-level officers under PMRDA to take stock of existing facilities and begin work on long-term solutions.
