Pune, 9th April 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved the construction of a new flyover between Sakhar Sankul near the College of Agriculture and the Old Mumbai–Pune Road to tackle persistent traffic congestion in Shivajinagar.

The project, estimated to cost ₹61 crore, has received budgetary approval and is being planned by the civic body’s special projects department.

The stretch between the College of Agriculture and Sancheti Hospital witnesses heavy traffic daily, affecting office-goers, students, commuters, and even patients.

The proposed flyover is expected to ease this congestion and provide smoother access to key routes leading towards Mumbai, Nashik, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Yerawada, and Pune Airport.

The flyover will be designed in a Y-shape. One arm will merge with the Mumbai-bound side of the Old Mumbai–Pune Highway, while the other will descend towards the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) side.

This design will allow vehicles coming via Gopal Krishna Gokhale Road to directly access the highway without passing through the congested Sancheti Chowk.

Additionally, the project includes connectivity through an underpass near Narveer Tanajiwadi and a route crossing the railway line, further improving traffic flow in the area. It will also create a direct link between Shivajinagar bus stand, railway station, and the Old Mumbai–Pune Highway.

The flyover is expected to reduce congestion not only at Sancheti Chowk but also along Ganeshkhind Road, Fergusson College Road, and surrounding areas, making daily travel faster and more efficient.
