

Pune, 3rd December 2025: A 24-year-old woman riding a two-wheeler died after a speeding tempo hit her at Hirabaug Chowk in the Swargate. The deceased has been identified as Ariba Arshadali Qureshi, a resident of New Modikhana, Camp. The accident took place on November 27.
According to Swargate Police, Ariba was travelling through Hirabaug Chowk when a fast-moving tempo crashed into her two-wheeler, causing her to fall on the road and suffer a severe head injury. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but died during treatment.
Based on a complaint filed by her father, police registered a case on December 1 against the tempo driver, identified as Vishwambhar Dashrath Sonawane, a resident of Vadgaon Sheri.
This tragedy comes at a time when Pune has witnessed a spike in fatal road accidents. In the last three days alone, five people have died in similar incidents. In Kalyaninagar, valet worker lost his life after being hit by a car. In another major accident in Hinjawadi, three siblings were killed when a bus rammed them on footpath.
These back-to-back crashes have raised serious concerns about road safety, speeding vehicles, and traffic discipline in the city. Police investigations in all cases are underway.
