Pune, 18th June 2026: After delayed for five times, much-awaited Pink Metro Line connecting Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi has entered the final stage of completion. Authorities have announced that 96 percent of the project work has been completed and the first phase of the corridor is expected to be ready by the end of June.
The initial phase will cover the stretch between Maan and R.K. Laxman Museum stations, comprising the first 12 stations on the route. Work on the remaining 11 stations is expected to be completed by the end of August, officials said.
The Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi Metro corridor is one of most important project as it will connect the city center with the Hinjewadi IT hub. Once operational, the metro is expected to significantly improve daily commuting for thousands of IT professionals, students and residents who currently face heavy traffic congestion on the route.
This metro is expected to cut travel time between Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi by nearly 50 per cent, reducing a journey that often takes around one-and-a-half hours to approximately 45 minutes.
“The corridor will provide faster, safer and more sustainable public transport while improving connectivity between two major economic centers of the city. It is expected to ease road congestion, encourage the use of public transport and support Maharashtra’s vision of developing the region as a major manufacturing and Global Capability Centre (GCC) hub,” said Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) CEO Anil Kumar Saini.
The Pink Metro Line has already faced six postponements, making commuters cautious about new timelines. However, with work now nearing completion, Punekars are hopeful that the long-delayed metro service will finally become operational in the coming weeks.
