
Pune, 20 June 2025: Savitribai Phule Pune University has achieved a significant milestone by securing the 566th position in the prestigious QS World University Rankings. Among Indian educational institutions and universities, it has claimed the 14th rank, and it stands second among public universities in the country.
The QS World University Rankings are considered one of the most credible benchmarks for higher education institutions across the globe. This year, in the QS World University Rankings 2026, a total of 8,467 institutions from 106 countries were evaluated. Out of these, more than 1,500 institutions made it to the final ranking list, with only 54 universities from India securing a place.
Consistent academic performance, excellence in research with practical impact on society, an innovative approach to teaching and learning, and strong collaborations with multiple industries have contributed to the university’s steady progress. The university’s affiliated colleges and recognized research centres also play a key role in maintaining this global standing.
Graduates from Savitribai Phule Pune University have been successful across various national and international sectors. The university has also been instrumental in providing credible connections for employment opportunities and fostering industry-relevant skills and entrepreneurship among students.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Suresh Gosavi stated that alongside premier institutions like IITs and IIMs, Savitribai Phule Pune University is making its mark at the national level. In Maharashtra, it ranks second only to IIT Bombay.
He emphasized that to achieve higher global rankings in the future, the university will focus on improving the student-teacher ratio, expanding international collaborations, and strengthening ties with industries and academic institutions worldwide.
