Pune, 20 October 2025: Pune police have arrested six individuals involved in illegal cockfighting and gambling in the city ahead of Diwali. The operation was carried out by the Wanowrie police station team on October 19, following a tip-off about gambling activities taking place in a public open area behind Impress Garden.

During routine patrolling, officers confirmed that a group of men were engaging in cockfights for money. Acting on this information, the police set up a trap and raided the location, catching six people in the act.

The arrested individuals were identified as Amol Sadashiv Khurd (Raviwar Peth), Mangesh Appa Chavan (Bhavani Peth), Nikhil Manish Tribhuvan (Ghorpadi), Amir Ayub Khan (Ghorpadi Gaon), Sachin Sadashiv Kamble (Bhavani Peth), and Pranesh Ganesh Param (Camp).

Police seized six colourful roosters, six burlap sacks used to carry the birds, three motorcycles, five mobile phones, and cash amounting to ₹2,580. The total value of the recovered items is estimated at ₹5,11,880.

All six accused have been booked under Section 12(b) of the Maharashtra Prohibition of Gambling Act and for cruelty towards animals. Wanowrie police are continuing further investigation into the case.
