Pune, 18 February: Supriya Sule, NCP working president and Member of Parliament, has said she will reach out to the Chief Minister to resolve ongoing water-related disputes between the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Water Resources Department. She emphasized that both are state government departments, and conflicts over pending water bills are unnecessary.
Speaking in Pune on Tuesday, Sule said, “The municipal commissioner and the water resources department have been approached. I will also send a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Instead of fighting among themselves, both departments should come together to find a solution.”
As per previous reports, Pune residents could face water shortages as the Water Resources Department has ordered the PMC to pay pending dues of ₹932.88 crore within 15 days, warning that supply may be cut if the payment isn’t made.
Sule met PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to review pending projects in Pune city and surrounding villages in the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency. She highlighted long-standing delays in municipal works and urged timely completion.
She flagged long-standing delays in municipal projects, including the Sinhagad Road flyover and Dhayari bridge, urged timely completion, and warned that traffic congestion will persist unless all works, including the Ring Road, are finished on schedule. Rising project costs were also highlighted as a key concern.
On cultural spaces, Sule stated, “Efforts are underway to remove the ‘Kalakar Katta’ at Gopal Krishna Gokhale Chowk (Ferguson College Road), but this space is important for young people to express their artistic talents. We have requested the commissioner not to remove it.”
On taxes in incorporated villages, she questioned levies on residents without basic infrastructure: “If the municipality is not providing basic facilities, how can taxes be levied on residents? Water tanks are ready, but incomplete work prevents water supply. The administration must act, and I have written to the municipal commissioner about this. The commissioner will definitely find a solution.”
Sule also called for PMC to address missing links and service roads, tackle water, waste, traffic, and pollution issues, condemned stone-pelting during protests, and urged authorities to maintain peace in Daund.
