Pune, 6th March 2026: Vishrambaug Police have arrested two habitual offenders from outside the state for allegedly carrying out a series of house break-ins across Pune. Jewellery and valuables worth nearly ₹62 lakh have been recovered from the accused.

Police said one of the suspects has a criminal record in Uttar Pradesh, including cases of murder, attempt to murder and robbery.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Hrishikesh Rawale said the investigation began after a complaint was filed at Vishrambaug Police Station regarding a burglary in which the accused had broken the door of a residential flat and stolen jewellery.

Following instructions from Additional Commissioner Rajesh Bansode, a police team led by Senior Inspector Pradeep Kasbe and Inspector (Crime) Arun Ghodke began the probe. Officers analysed CCTV footage from the area, which revealed that the suspects stayed at a lodge near Pune railway station after committing the burglary before leaving the city.

Police later received information that the suspects had returned to Pune with the intention of committing another burglary near Omkareshwar Temple. Acting on the tip-off, the police laid a trap and arrested the two men.

The accused have been identified as Akash Subhash (23), a native of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, and Jitendra Chaturvedi (32). Both were currently residing in Sundernagari, Delhi.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing five house break-ins in the jurisdictions of Vishrambaug, Samarth, Khadak and Bhosari police stations. Police recovered 406 grams of gold, 192 grams of silver, a laptop and two mobile phones, collectively valued at around ₹62 lakh.

Police also confirmed that Akash Subhash has several serious criminal cases registered against him in the Ghaziabad area of Uttar Pradesh, including murder, attempt to murder and robbery. Investigators believe the duo carried out burglaries across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi.

A court has remanded the accused to police custody until March 6. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Rajesh Bansode, Deputy Commissioner Hrishikesh Rawale and Assistant Commissioner Chandrakant Bhosale.
