Harry Kane scored a goal and provided an assist as Bayern Munich secured a 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund in "Der Klassiker" on Saturday. The win maintains Bayern's perfect start to the 2025-26 season, marking their seventh consecutive Bundesliga victory and their 11th win across all competitions.
Kane broke the deadlock at the Allianz Arena in the 22nd minute, netting his 12th league goal with a glancing header from a Joshua Kimmich corner. The goal also marked a career milestone for the England captain, representing his 400th goal in club football. Bayern extended their lead in the 79th minute when Kane sent a 60-metre pass to Luis Diaz. Jobe Bellingham’s subsequent attempt to clear the ball was blocked by Michael Olise, who slid in to tackle the ball into the net.
Dortmund, who were largely absent in the first half, applied considerable pressure after the break. They missed a significant opportunity when Karim Adeyemi fired over the bar from close range in the 67th minute. The visitors eventually pulled a goal back in the 84th minute when substitute Julian Brandt tapped in a cross from Julian Ryerson, leading to a tense finish.
Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich acknowledged the game's dynamic, stating, “The first half was very good. In the second half, Dortmund did better; they had a couple of good chances. They scored a nice goal.” Kimmich added, “We weren’t at our best level in the second half. But we fought, and it was a very important win for the team. You can see that it’s difficult to beat us at the moment.” Dortmund's goalkeeper, Gregor Kobel, noted, "the first half was not enough... Second half I think we played a different game, way better, way more courageous."
The result backs Bayern's position at the top of the Bundesliga table with 21 points, five clear of second-placed RB Leipzig. Dortmund's first loss in 10 matches sees them drop to fourth place with 14 points. The win also handed Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer a new record for the most Bundesliga match victories with 363. Bayern next hosts Club Brugge in the Champions League, while Dortmund travels to FC Copenhagen.
