Teenager Tanvi Sharma continued her impressive run at the Syed Modi International Super 300, securing a spot in the semifinals with a straight-game victory over Hong Kong’s Lo Sin Yan Happy.
Fresh off a stunning upset against former world champion Nozomi Okuhara in the previous round, the 16-year-old defeated her opponent 21-13, 21-19 in 38 minutes on Friday. She is now set to face Japan's fifth seed Hina Akechi, who advanced after defeating the third seed Sung Shuo Yun 21-8, 21-15.
In the other women's singles quarterfinal, top seed Unnati Hooda was pushed to the limit by compatriot Rakshitha Sree Santosh R before prevailing in a three-game contest. Unnati secured her place in the last four with a 21-15, 13-21, 21-16 victory.
She will next play fourth seed Neslihan Arin of Turkey, who eliminated India’s Isharani Baruah with a 21-19, 13-21, 21-15 win. The results keep the possibility of an all-Indian final alive in the women's bracket.
The men’s singles draw saw Kidambi Srikanth advance to the semifinals after his opponent, Priyanshu Rajawat, was forced to retire due to injury. Srikanth was leading 21-14, 11-4 when Rajawat, who had been struggling with a taped ankle and a thumb blister, could not continue.
Srikanth will face Mithun Manjunath in the semifinals, ensuring an Indian finalist in this category. Manjunath booked his spot by defeating Manraj Singh 21-18, 21-13 in their quarterfinal clash.
A major upset occurred in the men's bracket as the top seed, Jason Teh of Singapore, was knocked out by Japan's Minoru Koga. In a match lasting over an hour, Koga edged past Teh with a scoreline of 21-19, 12-21, 22-20. Koga will compete against Hong Kong’s Jason Gunawan in the other semifinal, following Gunawan’s victory over Magnus Johannesen.
In the doubles categories, top seeds Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand moved into the women’s doubles semifinals by beating Turkey's Bengisu Ercetin and Nazlican Inci 21-15, 21-16. Treesa enjoyed a successful day, also reaching the mixed doubles semifinals alongside Hariharan Amsakarunan after defeating an Australian pair 21-18, 21-14.
However, India’s campaign in men’s doubles ended as MR Arjun and Hariharan lost their quarterfinal match to the Malaysian duo of Kang Khai Xing and Aaron Tai.
