Apple's next flagship is shaping up to be one of its most significant overhauls in years. Ahead of an expected September 2026 launch, a wave of leaks and reports has shed light on what the iPhone 18 Pro Max will bring to the table, from a more powerful chip to a major camera upgrade.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 series in early September 2026, consistent with the company's annual release cadence, with shipping likely beginning roughly a week after announcement. Pre-orders are expected to open shortly after the reveal event. Notably, the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, the more accessible variants, are reportedly being pushed to spring 2027. The Pro and Pro Max models will reportedly launch alongside Apple's first foldable iPhone, currently referred to in leaks as the "iPhone Fold" or "iPhone Ultra."
Dummy unit leaks from late May 2026 indicate the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be marginally taller and wider than its predecessor. The rear camera plateau has grown slightly, measuring 11.54mm compared to 11.23mm on the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with the total lens-bump thickness reaching 13.77mm. Apple is expected to move away from the two-tone rear glass look of the previous generation, returning to a more unified finish.
Four colour options are anticipated:
Silver
Black
Light Blue
Dark Cherry.
The display is expected to be a 6.9-inch LTPO+ 120Hz ProMotion panel with a smaller Dynamic Island cutout.
Both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be powered by the Apple A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process. The chip is projected to deliver approximately 15% faster performance and consume around 30% less power compared to the A19 Pro, a significant efficiency leap heading into the AI-intensive era of mobile computing.
The biggest upgrade this cycle is the camera system. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is widely tipped to feature a 200MP primary sensor, a major jump from current-generation specs. Leaks also point to variable aperture technology for the main lens, giving users greater control over light intake and depth-of-field, a feature long associated with high-end mirrorless cameras.
On the battery front, an 80W wired charging speed and 25W wireless charging are reportedly on the cards, marking a notable step up for Apple, which has historically lagged competitors on charging speeds.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to be priced between Rs 1,54,000 and Rs 1,60,000 in India. Some estimates place the 12GB + 512GB configuration closer to Rs 1,69,990, with analysts suggesting Apple may raise prices this cycle despite, or partly because of, increased RAM and component costs. Official pricing will only be confirmed at Apple's September event.
