Foxconn, Apple’s largest global supplier, is planning to establish its first manufacturing facility in North India on a sprawling 300-acre plot in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, near the upcoming Jewar International Airport. This facility is expected to surpass Foxconn's Bengaluru unit in scale, making it India’s largest iPhone manufacturing hub. The move underscores Foxconn’s commitment to expanding its operations in India amid shifting global trade dynamics.
The facility will be situated along the Yamuna Expressway, within the jurisdiction of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). Its proximity to Jewar Airport and major expressways makes it strategically advantageous for exports and logistics operations.
The proposed unit will occupy 300 acres, making it larger than Foxconn’s Bengaluru plant, which spans a similar area but focuses on producing 20 million smartphones annually. Reports suggest that the Greater Noida facility will create 40,000 jobs, with residential accommodations for workers included within the complex.
While specific products have not yet been finalized, analysts speculate that the facility will primarily manufacture iPhones and other Apple devices as part of Foxconn’s strategy to diversify production outside China.
Greater Noida is rapidly evolving into a prominent electronics manufacturing cluster, similar to Chennai. The region already accounts for nearly 50% of India’s mobile phone exports. The Uttar Pradesh government has actively engaged with Foxconn, holding multiple rounds of discussions to facilitate the project. The region’s infrastructure and supplier ecosystem make it an attractive destination for global manufacturers.
Foxconn’s expansion aligns with Apple’s goal to reduce reliance on China and increase iPhone production in India, which currently accounts for approximately 20% of global output. In FY2025, India exported iPhones worth ₹1.5 trillion ($17.4 billion), showcasing its growing role in Apple’s supply chain. In addition to Greater Noida, Foxconn has facilities in Tamil Nadu (Sriperumbudur), Karnataka (Bengaluru), and Telangana (Hyderabad). The company is also investing in semiconductor assembly and battery manufacturing projects across India.
The new facility is expected to generate up to 40,000 jobs directly, boosting local employment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.
