Google has rolled out a new Gemini-powered feature for Drive that automatically generates audio summaries of PDF documents. The tool brings the Audio Overview capability, first seen in NotebookLM and Google Search directly into Drive, letting users listen to podcast-style summaries of long or complex documents.
Inside the Drive PDF viewer on the web, users will notice a new Audio Overview button on the top bar. When selected, Gemini produces a spoken summary that typically runs between two and ten minutes, depending on the document’s length and complexity.
Once generated, the audio can be played through the Gemini side panel or accessed later in a dedicated “Audio overviews” folder that syncs across desktop and mobile devices.
Availability
The feature is rolling out this week for Google Workspace Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and Google One AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. Currently, Audio Overviews are available only in English, with support for more languages expected soon.
Google says the feature is meant to help users quickly grasp the essence of long, text-heavy PDFs, such as reports, contracts, research papers, or meeting transcripts, without having to read every word. Using the same language model technology that powers Gemini in NotebookLM, the summaries are delivered in a natural, conversational tone.
