India is on the cusp of a significant milestone in sustainable transportation with the imminent launch of its first hydrogen-powered train. Scheduled to enter service by March 25, 2025, this train is part of India's broader initiative to adopt green energy solutions and reduce carbon emissions.
Manufacturing and Development:
The train is being manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, a leading facility for rail coach production in India.
The Ministry of Railways has allocated Rs 2,800 crore (approximately $337 million) for the development of 35 hydrogen fuel cell-based trains as part of its green energy initiatives.
