Flipkart on Saturday said that the gradual beginning of non-essential goods delivery through e-commerce will help meet consumer needs. This will take away the excessive burden piled on the inventory of small scale and medium scale businesses amidst the national lockdown.

The government on Saturday announced that some shops in urban areas could be opened up to 50 per cent of their strength while maintaining all the necessary health precautions until May 3.

After the announcement of extending lockdown on April 15, the government on Saturday said “all shops, including neighbourhood shops and standalone shops, shops in residential complexes, within the limits of municipal corporations and municipalities, registered under the Shops and Establishment Act of the respective State and UTs (union territories)” will be allowed to open during the lockdown.

Flipkart, in a statement, welcomed the government’s decision of providing gradual relaxations in retail. A spokesperson from the Flipkart group said “Consumers have shown great restraint during the lockdown, and there is a need to support their requirements. Further, a gradual opening up of delivery of non-essential goods through e-commerce will help meet consumer needs, which include items that will enable them to work from home, stay in touch with others and also address the rising temperature across the country,”.

“E-commerce can also support in easing the burden of piled up inventory of MSMEs and help in the delivery of these products to consumers safely and securely while following the robust safety SOPs.” The spokesperson added.

It is noticed that in times like these delivering services implemented with proper hygrine is the safest way for sellers and retailers to reach the citizens while still maintain proper social distancing.

As we continue our fight against Covid-19, the government has done a great job in maintaining a fine balance of keeping the wheels of the economy moving and the recent announcements are a step in that direction.” added the Flipkart Group spokesperson.
