GBS Outbreak: PMC appeals to contact these numbers for water testing; GBS info

Sending out the precautionary measures PMC appeals citizens to have fresh and clean food; not to eat stale food and partially cooked food (Chicken or mutton)

As the city is grappling with the Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) and seven deaths so far, the Public Health department has charted out precautions to be taken by the residents. While releasing the report prepared under Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme there were 192 suspected cases of GBS out of which 167 were diagnosed with it.

“Among the seven deaths, one was confirmed of GBS while six others suspected deaths were reported. Nearly, 91 patients have been discharged so far while 48 are in ICU and 21 are on ventilator”, said the report.

The report added, “39 patients are from Pune MC, 91 from newly added villages in PMC area, 29 from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, 25 from Pune Rural and 08 are from other districts”.

PMC so far 4769 water samples from different parts of the city have been sent for chemical and biological analysis to the Public Health Laboratory, samples from 65 water sources found contaminated.

In house-to-house surveillance activities too were undertaken of which 46534 houses in Pune MC, 25218 houses in PCMC and 13374 houses in Pune rural areas have been surveyed (a total 85126 houses). Similarly, 82 Serum samples have been sent to NIMHANS Bengaluru for Antiganglioside Antibodies testing.
