Are you one of those youngsters who want to run, fly, fall but just don’t want to stop, a la Kabir aka Bunny from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani?
There must be many like you who love adventures and outdoors but today’s fast lifestyle ironically makes everyone sluggish when it comes to pursuing passions. To get such people out of their comfort zones and ensure that their experiences are pleasant and memorable, sports enthusiast and fitness freak Darshan Gugle came up with a website called TrekFit. For the past four years, they have been successfully organising adventurous trips and activities for their clients including trekking, rafting, paragliding, and camping.
TrekFit also organises safe travel trips across India with customised packages. “If a group or a family is planning a trip, they ask us to book hotels, cab services, a local guide along with the other services they want. We fit it all in their budget and help them out in every difficult situation during the travel,” says Gugle.
Every weekend, the company organises seven to eight treks in the city. So far, they have completed 800 treks across Maharashtra. “We do some events for explorers as well. We organise fun treks to Rajmachi Fort in the Sahyadri mountains, in the month of May. We also organise trips to the Kas Valley near Satara, where beautiful flowers bloom every year in August/September. Besides these, we also organise dandiya camping nights and new year nights. More than 900 people register for the new year festival camping,” informs Gugle.
The 27-year-old adventure-lover says age is just a number. “Anyone who is fit enough to trek, is the best companion for us. We have people above the age of 75 years performing as good as the youngsters,” says Gugle while speaking about the age limit to register, adding, “We ask individuals about their medical conditions and also get the indemnity form filled by them before the trek.”
THE JOURNEYS
The company has covered the highest peak of the state — Kalsubai, at 5,400 ft, for more than 50 times. “In the North, we’ve done Hampta Pass trek, Kedarkantha trek and Brahmatal trek. In travel trips, we’ve covered Ladakh. As for upcoming treks and travels, the detailed information is given on the site,” Gugle says.
Expert guide, local meals, and trekking equipment like tents on rent, are provided by TrekFit at the destination. So one need not worry about the extra luggage. Vasota trek, Sandhan Valley trek, Kalsubai trek and Harishchandragad trek are some of the most-loved trekking trails.
Gugle says that trekking in general, has many benefits. When you travel with a group, you meet different types of people, there are zero chances that you would land in trouble, and the best part is that you get to test your own body limits — not everyone can complete a trek. People can train and become good trekkers. “There are a few easy trekking trails that one can start with, like Devkund waterfall, Tikona trek and Sinhagad fort. If one can finish these treks in time, one can definitely go for higher levels,” he points out.
People trek to appreciate natural beauty and celebrate their capability. But there are also some who, instead of appreciating anything, litter wherever they go. “Littering is a very common issue that we are facing nowadays. With its zero-tolerance policy, TrekFit ensures that none of its members litters. At the beginning of their trek, we tell everyone to be cautious about their actions. We suggest to pick up any garbage they come across and throw it in the dustbin,” Gugle says.
To give their travelling members happy memories, TrekFit gives them badges. It also gives discounts to members who are associated with them for a long time. “We are doing treks at the best economical prices that people can afford. The fun elements at TrekFit are amazing. We’ve got great reviews on our social platforms. We see to it that our clients enjoy the journey. We play antakshari, dance, say fun slogans, ensure each other’s safety and guide them too. Our trek leaders are young and energetic,” Gugle informs.
TrekFit also encourages people who are willing, to be guides or professional trekkers. People can opt for a volunteering course where they have to finish eight treks successfully as volunteers. Once they learn major and minor things of a trek, they can become professionals, says Gugle.
Gugle does not aim to compete with other sites. He says that he is not trying to beat anyone. He believes in doing hard work, which eventually leads to good things in life.
TIPS
When it comes to travel, people get very excited but they forget to take a few very important things into consideration. Gugle suggests to get a local guide and check Google maps as trekking trails are very difficult to cover. If you are travelling alone, cross-check the route with locals as sometimes even Google maps show wrong trails.
“Carry first-aid because sometimes minor injuries turn out into something big if left unattended. Water is very important, if your body gets dehydrated during the trek, it could lead to a serious medical condition,” says Gugle.
There is a common notion that treks and outings are fun things to do in groups. However, single people can also go for exciting treks and travels. In the past, TrekFit has also welcomed a solo traveller from Delhi and provided the best service to her including a local guide. The booking process is the same for both solo travellers and groups, he informs.
