It was a great 2017 for Universal Music Group in Latin Music with massive hits from artists like J Balvin, Luis Fonsi and Juanes. These Latin artists have scored nominations in top categories in the recently announced final list of the 2018 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
Mi Gente singer J Balvin is leading the way with nominations in 12 categories which are Artist of the Year, Social Artist of the Year, Hot Latin Song of the Year, Vocal Event, Hot Latin Song’s Artist of the Year, Male Airplay Song of the Year, Digital Song of the Year, Streaming Song of the Year, Top Latin Album of the Year Energía, Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Male Latin Rhythm Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Artist of the Year, Solo. Colombian star J Balvin recently released Machika, which is currently #62 Global Spotify chart with over one million daily streams.
On leading the 2018 Billboard Latin Music Awards Finalists, J Balvin shares, “I found out that I had 12 nominations when I was at the gym and I was shocked and I am still shocked. The best moment that will be worth is about to come”.
“Despacito singer Luis Fonsi has been nominated in 10 categories which are Artist of the Year, Hot Latin Song of the Year, Hot Latin Song of the Year, Vocal Event, Hot Latin Songs Artist of the Year, Male, Airplay Song of the Year, Digital Song of the Year, Streaming Song of the Year, Latin Pop Artist of the Year, Solo, Latin Pop Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year. The infectious dance number ruled several charts for months and is the first Spanish language song to reach a billion streams on Spotify.
Besides multiple Grammy Award winner Juanes has attained nomination for two categories which are Latin Pop Artist of the Year, Solo and Latin Pop Album of the Year. Juanes’s previous track Es Tarde which features J Balvin has over 11 million views on YouTube. The singer, who sings for the Spanish-speaking world, is set to begin his tour in April, which will include stops in Australia, USA, Puerto Rico and Vienna.
Daddy Yankee is amongst the other top nomination for the 2018 Billboard Latin Music Awards. He has been nominated in the following 10 categories for Despacito, Streaming Song Of The Year, Digital Song Of The Year, Hot Latin Song Of The Year, Latin Pop Song Of The Year, Hot Latin Songs Artist Of The Year, Airplay Song Of The Year, Latin Rhythm Artist (Solo), Hot Latin Song Of The Year (Vocal Event), Song Writer Of The Year and Artist Of The Year.
