Lillette Dubey recreates the magical tunes of Devika Rani in her play

Sakal Times

Bringing the inspirational story of the first lady of Indian cinema to the theatre world, Lillette Dubey is all set to direct a play titled Devika Rani. The play is based on the late actress’ life. Known for her iconic tunes, Devika Rani’s songs played an important part of her movie career. Lillette will recreate some of the songs live and the characters will be seen performing to the tracks. Adding a contemporary touch to the tunes, the director will recreate the nostalgia associated with these songs while keeping the taste of today’s audience in mind.

From Matwale Naino Wali and Bichad Gaye, Lillette will recreate Devika Rani’s popular songs in the play.

“Devika Rani was known for her love for acting and her signature songs that catapulted her to stardom and united the nation in their love for music and films. It’s an important part of who she was and we want to give it the significance it deserves. We’ve picked out some of her songs and will render a newer version of them in the play. Music always helps to deliver the nuances of the storyline with better clarity and I hope we can do justice to her story”, says the director.
