One of the most iconic and beloved characters in the entire Star Wars franchise, Princess Leia Organa is not someone who can be easily forgotten. It’s interesting to know that Carrie Fisher, who brought this character to life, was also a writer, comedian and mental health activist besides being an actor. She was just as dynamic, hilarious, and adored in real life. And though Leia was a princess, her character was hardly a damsel in distress and Fisher’s portrayal had a lot to do with it. The actor passed away on December 27, 2016 but we know that her legacy of Princess Leia will live on forever. So here’s remembering her through her most iconic quotes that have entered the ordinary lexicon of many Star Wars fans.
‘Help me Obi-wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope’
To describe Princess Leia’s significance in the Star Wars’ saga is effable. This is one of the first and most iconic lines that Leia utters. This is how it all began. Super famous and undeniably great, this line has now been featured in two Star Wars films.
‘Governor Tarkin, I should have expected to find you holding Vader’s leash. I recognised your foul stench when I was brought on board.’
The feisty Leia isn’t afraid of anyone, clearly not the Imperial officer.
‘Aren’t you a little short for a Stormtrooper?’
She may be in captivity by the Empire and being tortured by nightmarish devices of the Sith Lord but that won’t stop her from taking playful jabs at Luke — now that’s what we call sassy and cool.
‘Why, you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking Nerf herder’
No amount of trash talk can beat this insult by Leia to Hans after she finds out that he told Luke and Chewbacca that she had feelings for him.
Han Solo says to his rescuer, ‘Who are you?’ who turns out to be Princess Leia who then says, ‘Someone who loves you.’
Hans and Leia have always given us couple goals from their fights to when they express their love. This one in particular has been a favourite when Hans is greeted first by the voice of an alien bounty hunter and he suddenly hears the voice of the woman he loves.
‘I’m just glad you’re here. At the end.’
Luke and Leia have always had a playful yet supportive relationship where they have each other’s back. An emotional end to the space saga, Luke comes to help his sister and Rebellion; an overwhelming scene which led to an epic ending.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will premiere on Star Movies Select HD on Sunday, December 23, at 1 pm and 9 pm
