Actor Sunny Deol’s highly anticipated film Batwara 1947 will hit theatres on August 14. Just a day before its release, filmmaker Ramesh Taurani, who watched a screening alongside producer Aamir Khan and actor Ali Fazal, shared his thoughts on the movie. He lauded it as an intensely emotional narrative and said it is worthy of being seen “First Day, First Show”.

Ramesh posted on Instagram, uploading a photo from the theatre with Aamir and Ali. He captioned it, “Batwara 1947 is an intensely sensitive, emotional and profoundly human-affirming film that merits a First Day, First Show viewing. It powerfully highlights the resilience of the human spirit and underscores the need for compassion, particularly in the bleakest periods of our past.”
He went on to praise the performances, writing, “@iamsunnydeol delivers a terrific and deeply impactful performance. About Batwara 1947
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film features Sunny Deol as a Muslim man who relocates to Pakistan during Partition, where he discovers a Hindu woman, portrayed by Shabana Azmi, still residing in the house that has become his new home. As hostilities escalate, he assumes the duty of safeguarding her while also ensuring the safety of his own family.
The film marks Preity Zinta’s return to the big screen after nearly ten years. It also features the first on-screen collaboration between Sunny Deol and his son, Karan Deol, who portrays his son in the movie.
The ensemble cast further includes Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khushi Hajare, and Kanikka Kapur. Produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the film is slated to compete at the box office with Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2. Advance ticket sales for both releases began roughly 48 hours before they hit theatres. By Thursday afternoon, Awarapan 2 had established a clear advantage, with Sacnilk reporting that Batwara 1947 had sold about 30,000 tickets nationwide for its opening day, earning approximately ₹81 lakh. In contrast, Awarapan 2 had sold more than 1 lakh tickets and generated around ₹3.25 crore from advance bookings.
