Why Shah Rukh Khan and David Dhawan never collaborated

When asked why he was never able to collaborate with Shah Rukh on a film, the filmmaker replied, "It’s not like that. At one point, we were actually planning to work together. But I was always busy. I constantly had two films on the floors at the same time, so it became very difficult, you know. But yes, there was definitely a time when it was being considered."

He went on to explain, "But it has never been the case that I decided I would only work with a particular actor. Just as I worked with Govinda, with Salman, with Sanjay (Dutt), it simply turned out that way."

Over a career of more than 37 years, the filmmaker has created numerous hits and blockbusters with stars such as Salman Khan, Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan, including titles like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Partner, Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Judwaa, Hero No. 1 and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, among others. Yet, he has never collaborated on a film with Shah Rukh Khan.

About David Dhawan’s upcoming film

David is making his directorial comeback after a six-year break with Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. This film marks his fourth collaboration with Varun. In addition to Varun, the movie features Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in leading roles, with Mouni Roy, Rakesh Bedi, Rajesh Kumar, Maniesh Paul, and others playing significant parts.

The romantic comedy-drama faced backlash after its first-look video was unveiled recently. The inclusion of AI in the clip angered many online users, with several expressing hope that the film itself would not rely on AI. David later clarified that the AI-generated babies appeared only in the first-look video. The film was initially scheduled for a theatrical release on June 4, but to avoid overlapping with Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown-Ups, its release has been moved up to May 22.
