The trailer for Aditya Dhar's film Dhurandhar has been well-received by fans. This spy action thriller is intense and violent, as demonstrated by its graphic trailer that openly depicts scenes of torture and bloodshed. However, not everyone is impressed. Content creator and political commentator Dhruv Rathee has criticized the film, condemning director Aditya Dhar for the excessive violence shown in the trailer and even likening it to the beheading videos circulated by the terrorist group ISIS.
Dhruv Rathee criticizes the Dhurandhar trailer
On Tuesday, Dhruv Rathee expressed his views on Twitter (now X) shortly after the film's trailer was unveiled online. He criticized Aditya Dhar, stating, "Aditya Dhar has truly reached a new low in Bollywood. The intense violence, bloodshed, and torture depicted in his latest film trailer are akin to watching ISIS executions and labeling it as 'entertainment'," Dhruv Rathee commented.
Continuing his critique of the movie, Rathee remarked, "His insatiable greed for wealth is so extreme that he is intentionally corrupting the youth, making them indifferent to violence and celebrating horrific torment."
The filmmaker subsequently called on the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to examine the film's intense violence. He remarked, "This is an opportunity for the Censor Board to demonstrate whether they are more concerned about people kissing or witnessing someone being skinned alive."
Dhurandhar features Ranveer Singh portraying an Indian spy in Pakistan, with Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan also in the cast. The trailer has sparked interest among fans due to two particularly graphic and violent scenes. In one, Arjun Rampal, who plays an ISI Major, is shown skinning a person alive. In another, Akshaye Khanna, portraying a Lahore gangster, is depicted killing a man with a stone.
Supporters praise the 'seriousness'
The internet, on the other hand, seems largely unfazed by the violence. One person commented, 'The energy, the darkness, the atmosphere... it feels like Shashwat has just launched a new era in Indian music,' applauding the background score. Another individual appealed to the CBFC, saying, 'To the Censor Board: What is shown in the trailer should be exactly what we see in the theater. NO CUTS NO BLURS.'
