Aditya Dhar’s record-breaking hit Dhurandhar: The Revenge has achieved yet another milestone at the box office. The spy thriller has now surpassed $50 million in worldwide earnings, making it only the seventh Indian film to reach this figure. Even more remarkable, Dhurandhar 2 accomplished this feat without a release in either China or the Middle East, unlike every other film on this prestigious list.
Dhurandhar 2 enters the $50-million club
The Ranveer Singh-led film is the third highest-grossing Indian movie in history, with a worldwide collection exceeding ₹1760 crore. Industry sources estimate that more than ₹450 crore of this total has come from international markets. As of April 22, the film has made $50.5 million overseas, placing it seventh among Indian films in foreign box office earnings. The titles ahead of it are mostly those that dominated a single major territory. For example, Dangal ($238 million), Secret Superstar ($138 million), and Bajrangi Bhaijaan ($82 million) all scored heavily in China, while Disco Dancer ($76 million) became a massive hit in the Soviet Union. In contrast, Dhurandhar 2’s revenue is more evenly distributed across multiple regions. Notably, only Baahubali 2 and RRR achieved comparable success without a China release, each earning over $15 million in the Middle East, a market where Dhurandhar 2 was not released.
As with the first installment, Dhurandhar 2 was not released in the six Gulf nations. This informal ban arose from the film’s perceived anti-Pakistan position. Achieving over $50 million in overseas earnings despite skipping one of the largest markets for Indian cinema is an impressive accomplishment.
Dhurandhar 2 beats Jawan, Animal, Pushpa 2
As it approaches the $50 million milestone, Dhurandhar 2 has exceeded the overseas earnings of several past blockbusters, including timeless hits such as Sholay ($28 million), Bobby ($29 million), and Caravan ($39 million), along with more recent high-grossers like Pushpa 2 ($31 million), PK ($46 million), Jawan ($47 million), and Pathaan ($49 million). However, with its current international revenue now below $100,000 per day, moving further up the rankings and surpassing RRR ($53 million) appears unlikely.
