FIR filed against makers of web series ‘Tandav’

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against streaming platform Amazon prime’s India head of original content Aparna Purohit at Hazatganj Kotwali in Lucknow regarding the controversy surrounding Amazon Prime’s new web series ‘Tandav’, according to ANI.

The director of the web series, Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, and writer Gaurav Solanki have also been named in the FIR, news agency ANI reported. They have been accused of hurting religious sentiments.

The web series is also facing charges of promoting religious enmity and insulting Hindu gods.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Sunday sought an explanation from streaming platform Amazon prime video after multiple complaints were filed against its political drama show ‘Tandav’.

Multiple BJP leaders have called for a ban on Tandav. Ram Kadam, BJP MLA from Ghatkopar West, on Sunday lodged a complaint against web series at Ghatkopar police station.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra has also issued a legal notice to Amazon Prime video, asking for immediate removal of web series Tandav from its streaming platform.

BJP Chandigarh Spokesperson Gaurav Goel wrote to the Director General of Police seeking the arrest of the show makers.

Tandav is political drama web series starring Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Dino Morea, Kumud Mishra, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Gauhar Khan, and Kritika Kamra, premiered on the streaming platform on Friday.
