Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Friday granted relief to Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut in her petition challenging the demolition by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on her residence-cum-office.

The HC also directed the appointment of a valuer to regulate the compensation payable to Kangana for the demolition of her property. The court also said that the BMC had carried out the demolition on "wrongful grounds" and against rights of the citizens, which is "nothing but malice in law". However, the court stated that Kangana should also show limit when it comes to speaking about the government on public platforms.

The HC had suspended the demolition on September 9 in a big win for Kangana. The court observed that the demolition took place ‘when she is out of state, directing her to respond within 24 hours, and not granting her any further time, despite written request...’.

Kangana also demanded a compensation of Rs 2 crore from Mumbai's municipal agency for illegal demolition of a part of her office.

The Tanu Weds Manu actor has been in the thick of controversies in 2020 because of a face-off with Mumbai Police and the state government of Maharashtra over her criticism of the Sushant Singh Rajput investigation.
