Bollywood actor Mouni Roy has opened up about an incident of alleged harassment she faced during a recent public event in Karnal, Haryana, that she described as humiliating and traumatising for her. The actress, known for her work in television and films, took to social media to share a detailed account of what she said was inappropriate behaviour by several men in the audience.
In a series of Instagram Stories, Mouni wrote that as she made her way towards the stage, a group of men, including older family members, touched her waist under the pretext of taking photographs. When she objected and asked them to remove their hands, she said she was met with hostility rather than cooperation.
The situation, she said, worsened once she was on stage. According to her account, two men at the front made lewd remarks, displayed obscene hand gestures and resorted to name-calling. She even briefly walked towards the stage exit in shock but returned to complete her performance. She said organisers did not intervene or remove the men despite the behaviour continuing.
Mouni said the experience left her deeply affected and raised concerns about performer safety at such events. She appealed to authorities to take action, highlighting that artists go to these functions to entertain and celebrate, not to be subjected to harassment. She added that if someone established like her could face such conduct, new and emerging women artists might be even more vulnerable.
The actor described how the men allegedly filmed her from low angles and made her feel uncomfortable throughout the show. She said she loved her country and traditions but was disturbed by the “entitlement” she encountered. Her posts have drawn widespread attention and prompted discussions around respect and safety for performers at public events.
Mouni Roy was recently seen in the thriller Salakaar and has other film projects upcoming. Representatives for the event and local authorities have not yet issued a statement in response to her allegations. The incident has reignited calls for better security and clear protocols to protect artists at live shows across the country.
