Finally, after around six months, Thalapathy Vijay's last film, Jana Nayagan, received its certification from the Central Board of Film Certification. The details were shared on the CBFC website, and it has received an 'A' certificate with a runtime of 183 minutes and 11 seconds.

There were reports that the film had received an 'A' certificate after multiple cuts. Now, a report in Bollywood Hungama has mentioned details about the cuts and modifications. According to the portal, visuals of Dr B R Ambedkar on the cover page of a book were asked to be modified.

The CBFC instructed the filmmakers to alter a dialogue that originally stated, ‘Ambedkar sattam…TVK sattam’. The term 'TVK', referring to Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, was ordered to be either muted or changed in every instance it appears in the film.

A scene featuring a character making disrespectful remarks about a woman was muted, along with a particular line referring to social media. The board further directed that several specific terms be silenced or removed. The words 'Bhagavatham', 'Ranganathar', 'Siluvalia', and two expletives were muted. The term 'Om' was completely excised, the name 'Sheela Rani' was replaced throughout the movie, and mentions of 'New India' made during the explanation of Operation Meluha were also deleted.

Regarding visual edits, a shot showing the Indian flag falling to the ground was ordered to be removed. A sequence in which a DC official’s badge rolls down in a disrespectful manner was also taken out and substituted. In addition, images of a child on fire were deleted from two separate scenes. Reportedly, after all the cuts and modifications were made, Jana Nayagan received an 'A' certificate on July 9, 2026.

Jana Nayagan Release Controversy

Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled for a theatrical release on January 9, 2026, but the film’s debut was postponed after it failed to obtain certification from the CBFC. The producers took the matter to court; however, following several weeks of legal proceedings against the board, they eventually withdrew the case, and the Vijay-led film was subsequently forwarded to the CBFC Revising Committee for review.
