Earlier this week, the Chairman And MD of Birla Precision Technologies - Vedant Birla - shared a video of a bride and groom dancing during their phera ceremony on Twitter. The undated video of the couple dancing during their marriage rituals has the Internet divided.

In his tweet, Birla critisised the couple, writing in Hindi, "ये शादी है या संस्कारों की आहुति?

ये मत भूलिए आप दुनिया में पूजनीय हैं तो केवल अपनी संस्कृति और संस्कारों की वजह से। (Is this a wedding or the sacrifice of our traditional values? Don't forget that if you are worth anything in this world it is because of your culture and values.)”

In a Hindu marriage, the ritual of pheras around a sacred fire is considered to be one of the most pious ceremonies. During this wedding ritual, the bride and groom walk around the fire seven times and make promises to each other while a priest recites mantras (prayers).

The video has gone viral with more than 4.2 lakh views on Twitter, along with more than 2,000 comments. The video has paved way for a bigger debate on the microblogging platform. While some Twitterverse criticised the couple for ‘disrespecting the traditions, others came out in support of letting the couple “enjoy their special moments.”
