ST Staff

Pixar announced a new short film, ‘Out 'as the studio’s first film to feature a character identifying as an LGBTQ community member. The movie will be available on the streaming service for Disney Plus, as it is also Disney's first animated gay principal character.

Disney+ confirmed the forthcoming film along with the short's trailer on their Twitter page.

Talking about the film, president of Pixar, Jim Morris said, “Out,” a nine-minute animated film, is one of seven from Pixar’s Spark Shorts program, which seeks “to discover new storytellers, explore new storytelling techniques and experiment with new production workflows."

The studio was praised for its inclusion of a gay protagonist by Twitter users. Viewers have shared reactions about the film on Twitter, many calling it emotional, powerful, and a tear-jerker.

The film tells the story of a man named Greg, with his boyfriend Manuel preparing to move. Greg is then taken aback by his friends, who don't know Greg is gay yet.

Steven Clay Hu writes and directs the Animated Film. The first LGBTQ character, Officer Specter, was featured in the film 'Onward' earlier this year.

In their live-action films like 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' and 'Beauty and the Beast' Disney previously featured their LGBTQ characters.
