Delhi-NCR Meteor 2025: On Saturday, social media was flooded with images and videos of a brilliant streak of light in the sky over Delhi NCR. The skyline above Delhi and its neighboring regions displayed an enigmatic streak of light, captivating residents. Some observers believed it to be a meteor shower, while others speculated it might be debris from an old satellite re-entering Earth's atmosphere. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the phenomenon.
The streak was seen across multiple cities including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Aligarh. Videos showed a blazing trail moving across the night sky before breaking into smaller fragments. Witnesses observed the luminous object over Delhi and Noida at approximately 1:20 am on Saturday.
Social media influencers were quick to post images and videos of this enigmatic light streak on Instagram and Twitter, one among them was influencer Shresth Gautam who wrote in his post,“Can you believe this happened last night over Delhi at 1:20 AM? It started as a usual Friday but ended unlike any other. I have never seen anything like it. Most probably it’s meteor debris, but no words can do justice to the view.”
A different post on X featured images from Gurugram, describing it as a meteor shower. “Midnight spectacle in Greater Noida! Around 1:22 AM, a blazing asteroid lit up the Noida sky, a rare cinematic moment witnessed by locals,” the post read.
As anticipated by many, a Grok comment on X regarding a post about the bright streak over Delhi-NCR suggested it was probably space debris from a Chinese CZ-3B rocket body reentering the atmosphere. This conclusion was drawn from predictions and video features such as slow speed and fragmentation. While some experts referred to it as a bolide, the evidence pointed more towards debris. An official confirmation was still pending.
Previously, astronomers forecasted that two recently identified comets would illuminate the sky in mid-October. The comets, C/2025 R2 (SWAN) and C/2025 A6 (Lemmon), might be visible to the naked eye. The forecasts suggested that sky watchers could experience the uncommon event of two comets and a meteor shower reaching their peak simultaneously within the same week.
