According to an official report from the state government, as of Monday morning, 262 individuals from Maharashtra are still stranded in flood-affected areas of Nepal and China, while 144 others have been successfully brought back to India.

The Maharashtra Disaster Management Department stated that it is working with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to locate 64 people who remain out of contact.

The authorities had not yet managed to establish direct contact with 60 citizens who travelled with Richa Tours Pvt Ltd, while information on four additional individuals had been obtained through intermediaries, but they too could not yet be reached, it said.

The report states that a total of 144 citizens have arrived in India so far, with 105 reaching Nagpur on August 28 and the remaining 39 arriving in Mumbai over Saturday and Sunday.

According to the report, 262 residents of Maharashtra are still stranded in Nepal or China.

It stated that at least 69 individuals had crossed the China-Nepal border via the Kodari immigration centre, entered Nepal, and were expected to arrive in Mumbai by August 31.

The Better India in a post shared on X said that 106 residents from Maharashtra stranded in Nepal were helped by Bihar Police and were transported to Patna via bus and were then boarded on train to Nagpur.

The government has also obtained a list of additional Indian nationals and is working with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to confirm the details and get in touch with them.

According to the report, floods hit the Nepal-Tibet region on August 26, inflicting widespread destruction across multiple districts and impacting residents from various districts of Maharashtra.

Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported on Monday that the disaster’s death toll has exceeded 900, with more than 4,000 individuals still unaccounted for.
