Pune: A 20-year-old youth addicted to drugs shocked the Pune police after admitting to consuming five doses of MD (mephedrone) injections in a single day. The young man, detained in connection with a housebreaking case, confessed to stealing gold worth ₹16 lakh in the Hadapsar area.

The theft took place in upscale residential societies in Hadapsar, where recent incidents of housebreaking had been reported. Investigations revealed that the accused, heavily addicted to drugs, committed the crime while under the influence.

During interrogation, the young man revealed that he sold the stolen gold to a jeweler for just ₹6 lakh, accusing the jeweler of cheating him. He admitted to spending more than ₹5 lakh of the proceeds on MD drugs within 20 days.

The police noted that the accused had injected drugs five to six times in a single day. Due to his intoxication, the police had to wait two days for him to regain sobriety before continuing their investigation.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the rampant availability and use of MD drugs in Pune. The accused admitted that his addiction began in Mumbai, where he was influenced by a friend.

After moving to Pune, he continued to use MD drugs, primarily through injections. This case highlights the ongoing challenge for law enforcement in curbing drug trafficking and usage in the city.
