Pune: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar emphasized the importance of preserving the city’s heritage while promoting sustainable architecture during his visit to the "Academic Explorations" exhibition at Bal Gandharva Art Gallery, Pune.

Speaking at the event organized by Padmabhushan Dr. Vasantdada Patil College of Architecture, Pawar highlighted the need for natural ventilation in buildings and encouraged architecture students to create innovative, environmentally friendly designs that contribute to the city's beauty. He noted that air conditioning is only required during summer in Pune, underlining the city’s favorable climate.

Pawar commended the contributions of late Chief Minister Vasantdada Patil, who established major higher education institutions, including polytechnic and engineering colleges. Despite limited formal education, Patil’s forward-thinking vision left a significant legacy in Maharashtra’s educational landscape.

He also discussed ongoing government projects in Pune, including constructing buildings for key departments such as education, agriculture, labor, and social justice.

These new structures, he assured, will feature artistic and attractive designs. Additionally, Pawar proposed showcasing models of Pune’s heritage structures at metro stations to educate citizens about the city's rich history.

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, who also spoke at the event, encouraged architecture students to create sustainable and aesthetically pleasing designs, urging them to use their creativity instead of replicating existing designs.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by the institution’s president Adv. Abhay Chhajed, vice president Indrakumar Chhajed, and senior advisor architect Vikas Bhandari.

The college’s annual magazine, Keystone, was unveiled during the event, and a book titled "Pune – The Queen of Deccan" was presented to the dignitaries. Academic Coordinator Shekhar Garud hosted the program, while Director Prasanna Desai delivered the vote of thanks.
