Alandi Becomes First Class C Municipal Council to Allocate 3% Budget for Transgender Welfare

The budget emphasizes social welfare, with targeted allocations for different communities including 3% allocation for senior citizens’ welfare programs.

Pune: The Alandi Municipal Council has announced its ₹89.51 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26, with a surplus of ₹6.65 lakh. The budget, presented by Administrator and Chief Officer Kailas Kendre, features no tax increase and includes several key infrastructure and welfare initiatives.

Notably, Alandi has become the first Class C Municipal Council in Maharashtra to allocate 3% of its budget for transgender welfare. The budget prioritizes urban development, with significant allocations for key projects:

  • ₹5 crore earmarked for improving the city’s water supply, including the construction of new water tanks and pipeline networks.

  • Three new public gardens to be developed for recreational spaces.

  • Solid waste management project to enhance sanitation.

  • ₹3 crore dedicated to renovating municipal schools, with provisions for new buildings, modern facilities, and computerization.

  • Expansion of the underground drainage system to address population growth.

  • Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) project for enhanced wastewater management.

  • Construction of the Dehu Phata to Markal Bypass Road to improve traffic flow.

  • Significant budget allocation for the construction of a new municipal administrative building.

  • Strong Focus on Welfare Programs

The budget emphasizes social welfare, with targeted allocations for different communities:

  • 3% allocation for transgender welfare, setting a precedent for other municipal councils.

  • 3% allocation for senior citizens’ welfare programs.

5% allocation for the welfare of differently-abled individuals.

5% allocation for women and child welfare initiatives.

5% allocation for the welfare of marginalized communities.
