Well-known Rajasthan-based social media influencer Anita Bishnoi is receiving treatment at Jodhpur's MDM Hospital after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance following prolonged online harassment and personal stress. Doctors have reported that her condition is stable, but the next 24 hours are still considered critical. The episode has sparked significant concern among her followers and renewed debates about how cyberbullying and online trolling affect mental health.
Emotional instagram live before incident
Family members said Anita started a live session on Instagram on Wednesday morning shortly before taking the drastic step. During the broadcast, she allegedly claimed that certain people had been targeting and maligning her through coordinated social media campaigns.
In the video, Anita stated, "To those plotting to malign me, understand that dying is not easy, and you will gain nothing by trying to destroy my reputation. If you want to talk, come and meet me in person. If not, the police will take whatever action is necessary."
She also shared a highly emotional message stating that from that day forward, people would no longer see “their sister,” which alarmed many followers who promptly tried to reach out and offer support.
Husband alleges sustained trolling campaign
Anita's husband, Dinesh Bishnoi, asserted that another content creator, identified as Malaram, had been persistently targeting Anita online for a long time. He also claimed that attempts were underway to persuade other creators to join in the criticism, leading to a coordinated campaign against her.
Recounting the events before the incident, Dinesh said, "I got a phone call telling me that Anita had started a live session on Instagram, during which she accused another influencer, Malaram, of harassing her and declared that she was about to take an extreme step.He continued, "When I heard this, I went straight home. Shortly after, my son called to tell me that his mother had ingested something poisonous. We hurriedly took Anita to MDM Hospital, where she is now in the ICU."
Viral post became centre of controversy
Family members say a large wave of online trolling started after Anita posted a social media message about culture, values, and social change.The post stated: "If clothing grows ever more revealing, what will become of modesty? If traditional 'roti' is replaced by bread, what will become of strength? If people become servants to money, what will become of love?"
The message triggered intense reactions on the internet, drawing criticism and negative remarks that were reportedly escalating as time went on.

Hospital Superintendent Dr. Vikas Rajpurohit reported that Anita is in stable condition at present, and physicians are carefully observing her health status. Anita, a resident of Lathi village in the Jaisalmer district, had reportedly been facing several stressors in recent months. Her family members allege that harassment on social media, along with a continuing land dispute, may have played a role in her emotional turmoil.
