Pune: Each year, Japan's government offers a prestigious scholarship known as the MEXT (Monbukagakusho) to researchers worldwide, aiming to foster international goodwill, boost the educational and research potential of Japanese universities, and contribute to global intellectual exchange.

Atharvi Thorat, hailing from Kothrud, Pune, has recently been honored with this coveted scholarship.

Atharvi graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Sinhagad College of Engineering in Pune. She has secured a position in the Forefront Studies Program at Nagoya University, specifically in the Concrete Materials and Structures Laboratory.

The scholarship provides her with a monthly allowance of around ₹1 lakh, in addition to covering all her postgraduate tuition fees.

The Japanese government, through its Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology, will also bear the cost of her round-trip airfare and other academic expenses.

Nagoya University, a leading institution ranked among Japan's top ten, will serve as Atharvi's academic home for the next two years. Her research will focus on “Advanced Structural Analysis and Design Optimization of Cable-Stayed Pre-Stressed Bridges for Earthquake Resistance,” under the supervision of renowned professor Dr. Hikaru Nakamura from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department.

Besides her academic endeavors, Atharvi will undergo training in the Japanese language and cultural immersion, enriching her understanding of Japan. This scholarship allows her to dive into cutting-edge research without the burden of application fees.

Aspiring students who wish to apply can find detailed information about the eligibility criteria, application procedures, and application forms on the official website.
